The School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS) at Arizona State University invites applications for a full-time position in Actuarial Science at the rank of Clinical Assistant or Clinical Associate Professor. The anticipated start date is August 16, 2027. The Actuarial Science programs at Arizona State University, established in 2014 and 2018 for the Bachelor's and Master's degrees, respectively, have a total enrollment of approximately 100 students. Our Actuarial Science program obtained the Center of Actuarial Excellence (CAE) designation by the Society of Actuaries (SOA) in June 2024, which complements the program’s recognition at the gold level by the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS). The program also has an active chapter of the Gamma lota Sigma, Kappa.
About the School of Mathematical and Statistical Sciences (SoMSS)
The School offers Bachelor’s, Master’s, and Ph.D. programs in Applied Mathematics, Theoretical Mathematics, Mathematics Education, and Statistics, as well as undergraduate and Master’s programs in Actuarial Science. In addition, the School offers an interdisciplinary Bachelor’s degree program in Data Science and participates in a cross-college Ph.D. program in Data Science.
The School has a strong interdisciplinary research profile that includes numerous opportunities for collaboration on the campus with, for example, the Fulton Schools of Engineering, the School of Earth and Space Exploration, the School of Geographical Sciences and Urban Planning, and with interdisciplinary centers and institutes, such as the Institute for Social Science Research, the College of Health Solutions, the Global Institute of Sustainability, as well as off-campus with the thriving medical and technical industries in the Phoenix region.

Required Qualifications:
- A Ph.D. degree in actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, computer science, or a closely related field by the time of appointment.
- Demonstrated potential for excellence in teaching and mentoring students in actuarial science.
- No more than two outstanding credentialing requirements, including no more than two remaining examinations, toward Associateship or Fellowship with the Society of Actuaries (SOA), Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or a society mutually recognized by SOA or CAS. Candidates must also have completed one credentialing requirement within the previous three years.
Desired Qualifications:
- Experience in curriculum development in actuarial science or related disciplines, such as statistics, risk management, or mathematics.
- Demonstrated success working with a broad range of students and colleagues.
- Demonstrated active engagement with the actuarial profession within the previous five years through actuarial employment, internships, industry projects, participation in professional societies, research, publications, presentations, or other comparable professional activities.
- Demonstrated service to the actuarial profession through volunteer activities with the Society of Actuaries (SOA), the Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS), or another mutually recognized professional organization.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain collaborative relationships with the actuarial industry.
- Presentations at or participation in national and/or international actuarial science conferences.
- Demonstrated commitment to working with faculty, staff, students, and communities to advance the principles of the ASU Charter
