The Center for Laboratory Sciences is currently hiring an Examiner I as the Clinical Laboratory Inspector.
About the Department
The Center for Laboratory Sciences (CLS) serves to protect and promote the health of all Californians through innovative and collaborative infectious disease and environmental testing, including provision of investigation and surveillance activities which form the basis of disease response and prevention. The CLS works to bring together emerging scientific capabilities in testing, analytics, and communications reflecting a new level of coordination, support, and leadership for the public health laboratory system at the state, local and national level. In addition, the Center relies on a continuous improvement infrastructure as a core value in developing solutions that emphasize a culture of quality and performance through performance management success.

Responsibilities:
- Serves as the Clinical Laboratory Inspector, responsible for reviewing reports compiled for onsite surveys, inspections, and investigations of in-state and out-of-state laboratory facilities and testing personnel for conformity with licensing and certification requirements of CDPH.
- Provides complex technical expertise and consults with staff and laboratories on compliance with State and Federal laws and regulations, as well as conducts complaint investigations.
- Performs follow-up inspections, as necessary, to ensure correction of deficiencies.
- Reviews survey reports and makes recommendations regarding the issuance of laboratory licenses and approvals for accuracy, appropriateness, and clarity.
- Consults with field surveyors regarding survey reports to determine whether the laboratory is in acceptable compliance with appropriate state and federal laws and regulations.

- Balance multiple priorities simultaneously in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to work under pressure, execute sound judgement and exercise a high degree of confidentiality.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple assignments and meet deadlines.
- Ability to work independently and/or collaboratively in a team environment.
- Experience working with Databases is preferred but not required.
Special Requirements:
*License: Clinical laboratory Scientist License (CLS) or Public Health Microbiologist License*
