Job Description:
The Clinical Pathways Program Director leads the team that develops and maintains evidence-based clinical pathways utilized throughout Inova. Provides leadership, support, and guidance to key stakeholder teams in identifying, planning, and executing the development of clinical pathways in Epic using the AgileMD application. Partners with executive, Clinical and Medical Staff Leaders and hospital committees to ensure work aligns with hospital-wide initiatives and strategic goals. Serves as an expert resource and an educator to leadership, clinicians and front-line staff regarding the development, implementation and harmonization of Clinical Pathways across the healthcare system.
Job Responsibilities:
- Oversees assigned department or functional area to ensure it is performing effectively, which may include but is not limited to, preparing and implementing business strategy to achieve the organization's goals, ensuring legal compliance, communicating and collaborating with stakeholders, managing employment decisions and contributions of supporting team members, and managing departmental budget and fiscal success
- Leads the AgileMD clinical pathways team to develop and maintain evidence-based pathways that improve the quality, safety, and consistency of care across the system.
- Collaborates with clinical and operational leaders to design and refine standardized care processes that support systemwide performance and strategic priorities.
- Defines and guides clinical pathway development by setting project goals, aligning requirements, and ensuring effective execution.
- Serves as the primary liaison with AgileMD and other vendors to coordinate updates, functionality, and support that enhance patient-centered care.
- Establishes and oversees a governance process that ensures clinical pathways are regularly reviewed, validated, and kept current with evidence.
- Provides strategic leadership to set program priorities, allocate resources, and support long-term integration of AgileMD across Inova.
- Builds and leads a multidisciplinary team to deliver clinically relevant and operationally sound pathway solutions.
- Engages physicians, nurses, and other clinicians to develop consensus on standardized care processes that reflect best practice.
- Integrates pathways with Epic decision-support tools to streamline workflows and ensure pathways are easily accessible at the point of care.
- Aligns AgileMD pathways with existing protocols and policies to ensure consistency, reduce duplication, and support systemwide harmonization.
- Monitors pathway utilization and performance metrics to keep the program aligned with system needs and strategic goals.
- Reports program progress, key measures, and challenges to senior leadership to support decision-making and resource planning.
- Identifies opportunities to improve clinical outcomes, reduce unwarranted variation, and increase operational efficiency through pathway standardization.
- Advance the Clinical Pathways Program through participation in national initiatives, research, presentations, and mentoring activities.
Minimum Requirements:
- Licensure - Upon Start: Board Certificate: One of the following: MD, DO, APP, RN, Pharmacist
- Experience - 5 years of experience in direct delivery of patient care and 3 years of experience in healthcare informatics change management, including 1 year of Leadership in a Healthcare Setting
- Education - Master's degree; Graduate of Medical or Nursing Education resulting in board certification
- Due to the hybrid nature of this role, candidates must reside or be willing to relocate within a reasonable commuting distance of the Inova Center for Personalized Health
Preferred Requirements:
- Demonstrated success leading enterprise or multi-hospital clinical pathway, care standardization, or clinical decision support initiatives.
- Advanced expertise integrating evidence-based guidelines into EHR workflows, including build, optimization, and adoption strategies.
- Experience with AgileMD platform configuration, governance, analytics, and lifecycle management.
- EpicCare Ambulatory or EpicCare Inpatient or Epic build certification, preferred
