Description
Metrolina Eye Associates (MEA) is a growing, multi-location ophthalmology practice seeking a proven Director of Clinical Operations to lead and standardize clinic operations across 7 locations. This is a senior leadership role for an experienced ophthalmology operator who builds high-performing teams, drives accountability, and improves measurable clinical performance.
Key Responsibilities
- Drive consistency and operational excellence across all clinics
- Build, implement, and enforce SOPs and clinical workflow standards
- Develop leaders, coach performance, and create a culture of accountability
- Optimize staffing execution and daily clinical readiness (flow, rooms, supplies, testing)
- Partner cross-functionally with IT/EHR, RCM, Surgery Scheduling, and Optical teams
- Establish a KPI-driven operating rhythm and deliver sustained improvements

Leadership Structure
You will lead a multi-tier clinical team designed for scale and accountability:
- Clinical Manager (Multi-Site)
- Clinical Trainer (direct report)
- Oversight of Regional Lead Technicians (reporting to Clinical Manager)
- Total clinical team size: ~30–40 team members
90-Day Focus
The first 90 days will be spent:
- Building trust with clinical teams and leadership
- Rounding in clinics to evaluate execution, gaps, and variation between sites
- Learning MEA standards and operational priorities
- Delivering a focused action plan tied to KPIs and measurable improvement
Compensation: Competitive salary based on experience. Bonus potential tied to operational milestones and KPI performance.

Requirements
Required
- Ophthalmology clinical operations leadership experience (required)
- 5–7+ years in clinical operations leadership within ophthalmology
- Demonstrated success improving clinic throughput, cycle time, and staffing execution
- Strong leadership and communication skills with the ability to drive change through influence and accountability
- Comfort working in a high-volume environment with multiple physicians and locations
- Occasional evening/weekend work based on operational needs
Preferred
- COT, COE, COMT, or COA strongly valued
- Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Healthcare Administration, Business, or related field
- Strong experience with EHR systems and workflow optimization
