Division Chief of Allergy & Clinical Immunology
and
Director of the Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center
Michigan Medicine / University of Michigan Medical School
Ann Arbor, Michigan

The Opportunity

The Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Michigan Medical School seeks a nationally recognized, collaborative leader to hold two complementary appointments: Division Chief of Allergy & Clinical Immunology and Director of the Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center. One individual will serve in both roles, with distinct responsibilities for the Division’s clinical, research, and educational missions and the Center’s interdisciplinary food allergy research enterprise. Together, the two appointments offer the opportunity to align divisional leadership with a focused commitment to improving the diagnosis, prevention, and treatment of allergic conditions.

Division Chief of Allergy & Clinical Immunology:

The Division Chief will lead an academic enterprise of over 40 faculty, fellows, and staff, with responsibility for patient care, research, education, faculty development, and strategic growth across the full spectrum of allergic and immunologic disease. The Chief will build on the Division’s growth from a regional clinical program into a nationally recognized academic program and expand its clinical and research strengths in both food allergy and other allergic and immunologic conditions.

Director of the Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center (MHWFAC):

The MHWFAC Director will lead the Center’s food allergy mission, working with its scientific leadership and participating investigators to advance basic, translational, and clinical research. The Director will guide interdisciplinary collaboration, sustain the Center’s research infrastructure and national partnerships, and strengthen philanthropic support. The MHWFAC has Faculty appointments across multiple Medical School Departments and University of Michigan Schools.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will have the qualifications to articulate, implement and lead the strategic vision for both the Division and the Center and is expected to hold an M.D., or equivalent, or M.D./Ph.D. with board certification by the American Board of Allergy & Immunology. Candidates should have experience leading and expanding academic clinical and research programs and will possess scholarly credentials appropriate for appointment as an Associate Professor or Professor of Medicine at the University of Michigan.

The Organization

The Division of Allergy & Immunology is a national leader in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of allergic and immunologic diseases. Clinical expertise spans food, drug, environmental, and insect-sting allergies; asthma; immunodeficiency; eosinophilic disorders; mast cell disease; urticaria; atopic dermatitis; and complex drug desensitization.

The Division maintains a robust research portfolio across allergic and immune-mediated conditions, further strengthened by the interdisciplinary resources and infrastructure of the MHWFAC.

The Mary H. Weiser Food Allergy Center unites basic scientists and clinician-investigators across disciplines to advance the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of food allergy. Home to a FARE Discovery Center of Distinction, the Center supports

innovative basic and translational research in immunology, the microbiome, genetics of atopic disease, and anaphylaxis. Its mission is sustained through the Mary H. Weiser endowment and additional philanthropic support.
