What You Will Do:
- Coordinate community forestry projects including tree removal, tree planting and tree inventory work.
- Perform onsite tree inventories, inspections and site meetings.
- Meet with developers, builders, and members of the public for city forestry projects.
- Support the preparation of tree planting plans, urban forest/green infrastructure management plans, policies and ordinances.
- Prepare documentation and supporting materials for grant applications or reports.
- Analyze data and prepare technical reports and memoranda.
- Lead and supervise contractors and subconsultants on behalf of clients.
- Assist with public engagement and outreach presentations to community stakeholders.
- Most projects are in Minnesota; some overnight travel may be required.
What You Will Bring: The successful candidate will bring
- A bachelor's degree in urban forestry, forest science/management, natural resources, environmental science, environmental studies, horticulture or comparable field from an accredited school.
- 4 + years of urban and community forestry experience.
- MN Licensed Tree Inspector, or ability to obtain within 30 days
- ISA Certified Arborist
- Experience with GIS
- Experience mentoring and training others.
- Safety-focused, organized, and collaborative with a growth mindset.
- Experience working for or with municipal community forestry programs.
- Experience writing and/or administering grants.
- Experience with implementing, and writing forestry policies, ordinances, and plans.
- Experience with MN tree and shrub identification, tree inventories, tree planting projects
- Knowledge of shade tree pests and diseases, urban forest management practices and arboriculture BMPs, habitat management, and climate science as it relates to forests and adaptation.
- Experience with project management and mentoring/leading others
- Candidates must have a valid driver's license and a safe driving record.
- Our top candidates must possess strong tree identification skills, verbal communication, technical writing, conflict resolution, and critical thinking skills, attention to detail, ability to work alone or in group settings, and a demonstrated ability to provide excellent customer service.
