Description
Generalist with Clinical Research Focus (DABVP-Preferred)
Location: Austin, TX
Austin Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Center (AVES) is seeking a passionate Generalist with clinical research experience or a strong passion to build competency in clinical research to join our newly established Clinical Study Center in Austin, TX. We prefer candidates who are board-certified (DABVP), currently pursuing certification, or interested in pursuing it in the future; we also welcome applications from Generalists with strong research backgrounds or interests who do not hold a DABVP. This unique role is ideal for a well-rounded clinician who enjoys variety in their caseload, is eager to contribute to advancing veterinary medicine, and values evidence-based practice.
About the Role
As part of a small, collaborative team, you will:
- Partner with a board-certified Medical Oncologist and a dedicated support staff to conduct sponsored clinical research trials, including Good Clinical Practice (GCP) studies, proof-of-concept investigations, and industry-sponsored projects.
- Work with leading veterinary pharmaceutical, pet food, medical device, and diagnostic companies to help shape the future of veterinary medicine.
- Provide high-quality patient care while giving clients access to fully funded treatment options through research studies, reducing or eliminating financial barriers for eligible patients.
- Manage a diverse caseload that spans beyond traditional GP work—including chronic disease, pain management, and other emerging areas of research.
- Benefit from a structured research framework where projects are provided, allowing you to focus on clinical execution, patient care, and data collection (rather than grant writing).
- Have protected time for data entry and research coordination, ensuring compliance with protocols and high-quality documentation.
Who Should Apply?
This role is ideal for:
- Experienced veterinarians seeking to broaden their impact beyond day-to-day practice by engaging in clinical research that directly advances veterinary medicine.
- Early-career veterinarians with a background or strong interest in research who want to develop new skills and grow within a supportive, structured research environment.
- Clinicians who value variety, enjoy managing diverse cases, and are curious about emerging treatments and approaches that extend beyond traditional general practice.
- Veterinarians who are passionate about evidence-based medicine and want to contribute meaningfully to studies that improve patient outcomes and expand access to care.
Whether you’re an experienced practitioner ready to grow your influence or a newer veterinarian eager to explore a career that combines clinical care with scientific discovery, this role offers a unique opportunity to do both.
What We Offer
- Competitive salary and comprehensive benefits package.
- A collaborative, multi-specialty hospital environment including 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Anesthesiology, Surgery, Oncology, Neurology, and Ultrasound. Cardiology is provided daily by CVCA Cardiac Care for Pets. Radiation Oncology and Rehabilitation & Acupuncture services will be added in Fall 2025.
- A supportive team of research coordinators and technicians to assist with trial execution.
- Opportunities to work directly with top-tier industry partners on groundbreaking projects.
- Mentorship and collaboration with experienced specialists who are passionate about clinical research.
