Medical Director – Mental Health (with an interest in Addiction Medicine)
Tellurian Behavioral Health, Madison, WI 6–18 hours/week, with option to flex up to 30 hours/week (Additional hours available for candidates interested in providing outpatient therapy services.)

Position Overview
The Medical Director, along with the leadership team, is responsible for the continuous evolution of Tellurian as a center of excellence in behavioral health care. This role provides strategic leadership, clinical oversight, and program development across inpatient, outpatient, residential, and community settings.
Key Responsibilities
- Designing and implementing comprehensive, evidence-based programs supporting individuals across the continuum of care for acute and chronic mental health and substance abuse services.
- Ensure appropriate prescribing practices and medication management standards.
- Monitor compliance with Medicaid/Medicare and WI state accreditation standards.
- Review documentation standards, adverse outcomes, and risk management issues.
- Active participation with Tellurian’s leadership team in strategic planning, budgeting, workforce planning, recruitment, and retention.
- Engaging all community health care providers in understanding and utilizing Tellurian’s expertise and services in achieving the best possible coordination of services, honoring the commitment: ”it takes a village!”
- Actively participating in community education, advocacy, and fundraising activities.
- Participating in clinical coverage as part of the leadership team.
Requirements
Education & Experience
Required:
- Medical degree (MD or DO) with board certification in psychiatry.
- Minimum of 5 years of administrative and clinical experience
- Demonstrated leadership in community psychiatry with an additional interest in addiction medicine
- Commitment to underserved populations.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills.
- Knowledge of insurance reimbursement, coding, and Wisconsin laws/regulations related to mental health services and substance abuse services.
- Familiarity with Wisconsin licensing and certification requirements for specific Tellurian services.
- Active Wisconsin Medical and DEA licenses.
