This position may have the flexibility to telework, work a hybrid schedule, or work in the office. The incumbent will be required to make a telework arrangement with their supervisor. The incumbent will be expected to work in the office as determined by policy and discussion with their supervisor.
Our Metropolitan Planning Program Coordinator position serves as the liaison between the Minnesota Department of Transportation (MnDOT) and Metropolitan Planning Organizations (MPOs) to ensure a compliant, unified, and transparent transportation planning process. The role is responsible for overseeing the federally mandated 3C (Continuing, Cooperative, and Comprehensive) planning process, which includes managing the development and consistency of Unified Planning Work Programs, Transportation Improvement Programs (TIPs) and long-range multimodal plans.
Beyond regulatory oversight and agency review, the position facilitates inter-agency collaboration by coordinating with federal partners and providing technical expertise for grant contracting. Additionally, the role provides support for the Statewide Multimodal Transportation Plan, Advancing Transportation Equity Initiative, and functional classification process.
Travel (10% of time) is required for monthly MPO Technical Advisory Committee meetings, quarterly MPO Directors' meetings, and other ad hoc meetings.
Requirements
Here are the Minimum Qualifications:
Three years of advanced professional transportation planning experience that demonstrates the following:
- Experience with planning principles, methods, and techniques.
- Experience leading planning studies or complex planning processes.
- Experience with grants management principles, procedures, and techniques.
A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Planning, Geography, Urban Studies, Sociology, Political Science substitutes for six months of advanced professional experience.
