- Primary Care Mental Health Integration and Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry
Description
The San Diego VA is now recruiting for a psychiatrist for our Primary Care - Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program within our mental health care line. Ideal applicants will have experience with providing integrated mental health care in primary care clinic setting through collaboration with primary care physicians and nurses. Successful candidates will be encouraged to seek faculty appointments with our academic affiliate, the Department of Psychiatry at the University of California, San Diego.
Duties would include, but are not limited to:
- Assessment and triage services to Veterans new to Mental Health in the outpatient setting for a broad range of clinical problems, including but not limited to post-traumatic stress disorder, mood, anxiety and psychotic disorders, severe mental illness, substance use disorders and other psychiatric disorders found in the Veteran population.
- Consulting with primary care physicians, providing brief mental health assessments and time-limited follow up to Veterans not established in specialty mental health.
- Evaluation and treatment of Veterans in the outpatient setting. The psychiatrist must be skilled in psychopharmacology, integrative mental health modalities, and will provide therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessments, medication evaluation and management, suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders.
- Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members that enhances coordination of comprehensive patient care.
- Multi-disciplinary collaboration both within the IU and otherwise (e.g. primary care, outpatient mental health).
- Based on applicant qualifications and interest, may include time on the inpatient Consultation-Liaison Psychiatry service.
- Coverage of other mental health programs when requested.
VASDHS provides a full range of patient care services including inpatient and outpatient care, with state-of-the-art technology as well as education and research. VASDHS is a teaching hospital system offering many opportunities for teaching, mentoring, and supervising medical students, residents and fellows. Additionally, opportunities exist to be involved with interprofessional training of psychology and pharmacy trainees. VASDHS serves one of the nation’s largest veteran populations and provides care at seven facilities, including the main medical center and five outpatient locations in Kearny Mesa, Oceanside, Sorrento Valley, Escondido, Chula Vista, and El Centro.
Starting salary with no subspecialty boards is $274,054 annually, with increases based on training, qualifications, and experience.
