About this role

The Regional Environmental Health & Safety Specialist is responsible for supporting and advancing environmental, health, and safety performance across multiple manufacturing facilities within the designated region.

This role partners closely with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, Human Resources, and site leadership to identify and reduce risk, strengthen EHS systems, and ensure compliance with applicable federal, state, local, and corporate requirements. The position will have a strong presence on the production floor and will support safety and environmental audits, ergonomic assessments, industrial hygiene activities, incident and near-miss investigations, corrective actions, employee engagement, training, and continuous improvement initiatives.

The Regional EHS Specialist will apply Human & Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to understand how work is actually performed, identify system and organizational factors that influence outcomes, and turn events and observations into organizational learning.

Specific Responsibilities:
1. Establish, implement, and maintain EHS programs, policies, and processes across assigned manufacturing locations to support employee health and safety and compliance with regulatory and corporate requirements.
2. Serve as an EHS partner to Operations and site leadership, providing practical guidance, coaching, and support to management, supervisors, frontline leaders, and employees.
3. Provide timely EHS support for significant injuries, incidents, emergencies, and other events across assigned locations, including travel when necessary.
4. Lead workplace injury, incident, and near-miss investigations using HOP principles to understand how work is performed, identify contributing system factors, capture organizational learning, and drive sustainable corrective and preventive actions.
5. Conduct safety and environmental audits, inspections, risk assessments, and field observations; partner with site leadership to identify hazards and implement effective controls.
6. Lead and support ergonomic initiatives by assessing manufacturing tasks, identifying higher-risk activities, recommending improvements, and tracking progress in accordance with Corporate Loss Prevention guidelines.
7. Support and oversee environmental compliance across assigned locations, including applicable air permitting, stormwater/SWPPP, SPCC, hazardous waste/RCRA, and other environmental requirements.
8. Partner with Safety Ambassadors and site leadership to strengthen employee engagement, encourage reporting of hazards and near misses, identify risk, share learning, and continuously improve EHS performance.
9. Conduct and facilitate EHS training in accordance with regulatory and corporate requirements, including Lockout/Tagout, hazard communication, PPE, emergency preparedness, equipment safety, First Aid, and other applicable programs.
10. Maintain accurate EHS reporting and recordkeeping, including OSHA injury and illness records, training documentation, environmental records, industrial hygiene information, investigations, corrective actions, and other required documentation.
11. Utilize Benchmark Gensuite and other EHS data systems to identify trends, monitor leading and lagging indicators, track corrective actions, and provide actionable insights to site and EHS leadership.
12. Partner with Operations, Engineering, Maintenance, and site leadership to integrate EHS considerations into equipment design, process changes, capital projects, new equipment installations, and operational decision-making.
13. Support workers' compensation, injury management, and return-to-work processes in partnership with EHS, Human Resources, Operations, and applicable medical providers.
14. Share lessons learned, successful risk-reduction strategies, and best practices across locations to improve consistency and strengthen EHS systems throughout the region.
15. Perform other duties as assigned within the nature and level of the position.

Key Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Occupational Safety, Environmental Health & Safety, Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or a related discipline preferred, with approximately 3–5 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing or industrial environment. Multi-site experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of applicable OSHA, EPA, federal, state, and local regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with Operations and frontline leadership, influence without direct authority, facilitate learning-focused discussions, and balance regulatory requirements with practical operational solutions.
