Position Description:
We are seeking a highly motivated Research Scientist in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology to investigate the role of dysregulated innate immune signaling on alphaviral infection and pathogenesis.
The ideal candidate will have experience in molecular and cellular biology, molecular virology, cellular and small animal models of alphaviral infection, rodent colony management, next-generation sequencing, and the quantitative and qualitative assessment of alphaviral pathogenesis. The position involves working with mouse models, as well as application modern multiomic technologies. This job requires data analysis and presentation at lab meetings, conferences, and other venues, as well as report preparation. The candidate will also be expected to mentor and direct trainees, such as summer interns and undergraduate students, as well as laboratory technicians and colleagues.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Generate complex mouse models of alphaviral infection and evaluate innate immune signaling and inflammation both in vitro and in vivo.
- Conduct experiments to generate novel IRAK1 and inflammatory disease mouse models.
- Conduct cellular and molecular biology, virology, and immunology experiments to define the molecular mechanism and impacts of the dysregulation of IRAK1-dependent signaling are related to pathogenesis.
- Generate and analyze mice brain tissues for single cell sequencing, histology and spatial biology studies.
- Perform ELISA, RNA, DNA, immunohistochemistry, RT PCR, flowcytometry, microscopy, animal dissection and tissue collection experiments.
- Write and prepare the data for reports, publication and presentations. Preparation of manuscripts to publish the research findings.
- Review literature of the research areas and present the work at lab, university and national, international meetings.
- Mentoring the research technicians, summer and graduate students.
- This position includes project development towards grant preparation and submission.
Preferred Qualifications
- PhD, MD or DVM and 4 to 6 years of related experience with a strong background in viral pathogenesis, virology, molecular biology, cell biology, inflammation, and experience with mouse models of alphaviral infection.
- Strong record of prior accomplishments as evidenced by at prior publication record.
- Knowledge of virology, innate immunology, histopathology, and inflammatory disorders.
- Commitment and passion to science.
Competencies
- Training in Western blotting, PCR, ELISA, Flow cyometry, Immunohistology, Confocal analysis, mouse and cell cultures handling, handling, modern virological techniques and animal colony management.
- Proficient in training and implementing new technologies.

- Demonstrated work ethic and reliability.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and writing skills
