The STD Control Branch, California Department of Public Health, is recruiting for a Surveillance & Data Management Unit Chief.

The Research Scientist Supervisor I (RSS I) (Epidemiology/Biostatistics) plans, designs, organizes, analyzes, and interprets STD/HCV surveillance data. The RSS I will conduct technical research and statistical analyses related to STD/HCV case reporting, management, and intervention efforts; develop editing and coding procedures for data processing; write complex computer programs using a variety of software packages to assure data quality; disseminate scientific results, findings, and program and policy recommendations to Sexually Transmitted Diseases Control Branch (STDCB) management, staff, contractors, external stakeholders, federal funders, and community planning groups, at professional meetings and conferences; and publishes research findings in scientific journals and state reports. The RSS I directs and supervises a team responsible for conducting California Reportable Diseases Information Exchange (CalREDIE) trainings; managing interstate communications control records (ICCR); and analyzing data extracts to produce tables and presentation materials, create state and local maps depicting the spatial distribution of STD and HCV cases, and write scientific reports summarizing the results of these analyses for program use. The RSS I also works in conjunction with other health professionals at the state and local health jurisdiction (LHJ) level to design and implement mechanisms for rapid assessment of STD and HCV trends in priority at risk populations in California. Moderate overnight travel is required.

Travel expenses associated with commuting to the office headquarters location are not reimbursable, other than authorized transit subsidies.
