Department Overview
Family Medicine at South Waterfront is a high-volume primary care clinic located in the Center for Health & Healing 1 building. The clinic provides comprehensive, lifespan care to patients across all stages of life through in-person, virtual, and telephone visits.
Services include general family medicine, transgender health care, maternity and prenatal care (including deliveries), pediatric care, behavioral health and counseling, sports medicine, medication-assisted treatment (MAT), podiatry and foot care, acupuncture, minor procedures, and preventive health services.
Clinical care includes medication administration (oral and injectable), telephone and in-clinic triage, care coordination and management, patient education, complex wound care, pain management, and behavioral health support, including crisis intervention.

The clinic serves a diverse patient population, including pregnant individuals, infants, children, adolescents, adults, and older adults. Care is delivered to patients with a wide range of needs—from routine preventive care to complex, chronic conditions, often impacted by social determinants of health (SDOH).
Department Key Responsibilities:
Registered Nurses are integral to care delivery and perform clinical triage and patient advice, care coordination and transitions of care, chronic disease management, preventive care and population health work, visit-based nursing care, patient education and self-management support, and medication administration and management.
- Experience in independent RN triage via phone and in-basket messaging utilizing protocols
- Conducts RN led visits within scope i.e. iv placements, medication administration, chronic disease education, and wound care
- Experience in longitudinal care management and care coordination
Required Qualifications
- BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date.
- ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date.
- Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire
- Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License
- Active Washington RN License within 6 months of hire
- BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.
- Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in independent RN triage via phone and in-basket messaging utilizing protocols
- Conducts RN led visits within scope i.e. iv placements, medication administration, chronic disease education, and wound care
- Experience in longitudinal care management and care coordination
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) issued by American Heart Association (AHA)
Additional Details
Length of Orientation New Graduate Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Residency Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for about 10-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
Length of Orientation Experienced Nurse
- External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week.
- Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area. An employment service agreement may apply.
