- Post-Graduate Residency in Clinical Counseling
Description
Family Compass is a well-established group practice serving Northern Virginia for over 25 years, specializing in clinical work with children, adolescents, and families. We are seeking a post-graduate counseling resident to join our team beginning August 2026.
This position is designed to support the resident's path to LPC licensure in Virginia while providing rich clinical experience in a collegial, child-focused practice.
What We Offer:
- Weekly individual supervision by a Virginia-approved LPC supervisor (Board-Approved Supervisor), structured to meet the residency-in-counseling requirements set by the Virginia Board of Counseling—Supervision provided with no cost to the residence
- Weekly group case consultation with our clinical team
- A diverse caseload spanning early childhood through adolescence, with presenting concerns including anxiety, mood, ADHD, behavioral concerns, trauma, and family adjustment
- Mentorship in evidence-based modalities and family-centered care
- A warm, collaborative practice culture that prioritizes professional growth over volume
Position Structure:
- Clinical caseload built gradually to 20–24 hours per week
- Primarily in-person, with limited telehealth as clinically appropriate
- Full administrative support: scheduling, billing, intake coordination, and EHR
- Documentation and supervision hours tracked to support timely accrual toward the 3,400-hour residency requirement
Requirements
Qualifications:
- Master's or doctoral degree in counseling from a CACREP-accredited program (or equivalent, meeting Virginia Board of Counseling coursework requirements)
- Registered, or eligible to register, as a Resident in Counseling with the Virginia Board of Counseling by start date
- Clinical experience with children and adolescents (practicum or internship counts)
- Experience with preschool-age children is a plus but not required
- Strong interpersonal skills and genuine interest in long-term work with children and families
Compensation & Benefits:
- $85 per clinical hour with client
- 401(k) with up to 3.5% employer match
- $1,500 annual stipend for professional development and training
- Supervision provided at no cost to the resident
