Job Description:

Budget Title: Senior Staff Assistant (SL-3)

Salary: $75,000

The Couper-Owens Center for Community Schools (C-O) at Binghamton University, housed within the College of Community and Public Affairs (CCPA), advances the University-Assisted Community Schools (UACS) model in K-12 schools across the local, regional, and national levels. Through strong university-school partnerships, C-O prepares the next generation of school-based mental health professionals while expanding access to support for youth and families in high-needs school communities.

The School Mental Health Project Assistant Clinical Director plays a central role in advancing the Couper-Owens School Mental Health Project and related Mental Health Service Professional Demonstration grants. This position contributes to innovative university-school partnerships that expand access to school-based mental health services while preparing the next generation of school mental health professionals through clinical supervision, training, and mentorship.

Working closely with the School Mental Health Project Director, the Assistant Clinical Director provides clinical supervision, training, and program coordination to ensure high-quality learning experiences for UACS Social Work Fellows and effective implementation of school-based mental health initiatives across partner districts.

In this role, the Assistant Clinical Director serves as the Field Instructor for UACS Social Work Interns, providing clinical supervision, professional mentorship, and instruction aligned with Council on Social Work Education (CSWE) competencies and Binghamton University field education standards.

The Assistant Clinical Director collaborates with Site Supervisors, school district personnel, university faculty, and Couper-Owens staff to strengthen program implementation, professional development, and continuous quality improvement.

This is a 12-month position, with summer months dedicated to preparation and planning for the next academic year. The Assistant Clinical Director reports to the School Mental Health Project Director.

Primary Responsibilities:

• Program Leadership & Service Implementation - Through partnerships with school districts, the program expands access to school-based mental health supports, strengthens family engagement, and builds school staff capacity to address student mental health and well-being.
  • Support implementation of the Scholl Mental Health Project.
  • Monitor project timelines, service deliverables, and program milestones.
  • Assist in operational planning and problem-solving to strengthen implementation and continuous quality improvement.
  • Collaborate with Site Supervisors to support strong program implementation and coordinated student support within partner schools.
• Clinical Supervision & Field Instruction - Serve as the Field Instructor for UACS Social Work Interns, providing clinical supervision, mentorship, and instruction that prepares emerging professionals for careers in school-based mental health. Through this work, the Assistant Clinical Director contributes to building the future school mental health workforce.
  • Provide one hour of weekly individual clinical supervision to UACS Social Work Interns.
  • Guide UACS Social Work Interns in developing competencies aligned with the nine CSWE core competencies.
  • Support UACS Social Work Interns in identifying practice behaviors and learning opportunities within school settings.
  • Partner with Site Supervisors to ensure coordinated supervision and consistent expectations for UACS Social Work Interns.
  • Facilitate reflective practice connecting academic coursework to field experience and in-service seminars.
  • Participate in liaison meetings with the field office, Site Supervisors, and UACS Social Work Interns.
  • Support UACS Social Work Interns in navigating challenges and developing supportive action plans when needed.
  • Complete field education documentation and evaluation processes in online data systems.
  • Monitor UACS Social Work Interns' field hours and approve time logs.
  • Foster UACS Social Work Interns' professional identity and interest in careers in school mental health.
• Training & Professional Development - Support the development of UACS Social Work Interns through structured training, professional learning communities, and ongoing skill-building opportunities.
  • Assist in planning and facilitating orientation, Prep Academy, and monthly in-service training.
  • Collaborate with the Project Director to develop training curriculum and annual training calendars.
  • Identify emerging training needs for UACS Social Work Interns and Site Supervisors.
  • Participate in structured professional learning communities and cross-site consultation to continuously refine practice and strengthen program implementation.
  • Participate in professional development and build expertise in areas including, but not limited to

    • Family Engagement
    • Trauma-Informed Practice
    • Suicide Prevention
    • Restorative Practices

Requirements:

• Master's degree in Social Work with minimum of two years of post-MSW practice experience
• Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW)
• Experience supervising social work interns
• Experience working in or partnering with school communities
• Demonstrated knowledge of CSWE competencies and social work field education standards
• Access to reliable transportation and a valid driver's license to operate a vehicle in NYS

Preferred Qualifications

• Licensed Clinical Social Worker
• Experience providing clinical supervision
• Experience working in school-based mental health or community school
• Experience developing or facilitating professional training
• Knowledge of school-based mental health and community school approaches
• Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary school teams
• Experience implementing MTSS or school-wide mental health initiatives
